The construction industry is one of the worst polluters of our eco-system. At Greenheart we feel we have a responsibility to work in a way which minimises the damage caused to the environment through building. Additionally. we also want our buildings to be healthy and inspiring places in which to live and work.
To this end, we have a number of principles which we try to adhere to in our day-to-day practices (whenever practicable).
-
We use FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) approved timber, and avoid all tropical hardwoods. (We have excellent hardwoods and softwoods of our own).
-
We avoid excessive use of chemicals and plastics.
-
We insist on high insulation standards, using natural materials such as recycled newsprint and sheep's wool.
-
We separate and recycle waste where feasible. We try to source local materials.
-
We won't use MDF or materials harmful to our, or the end user's, health.
-
We promote the use of traditional materials and reduce the amount of cement. ...
....but above all we are committed to good, healthy, ecological design and well crafted building.
